Jersey collectors sometimes use terms which are unfamiliar. Here is a guide to some of the lingo used on this site and elsewhere:
Game Worn Jersey
–
This is a jersey worn during an official game by a player on the roster
in attendance at the game.
Also referred to on the site as “GW”.
Team Issue Jersey –
This is a jersey manufactured exclusively for a particular team, but not
used during a game.
Also referred to on the site as “TI”. NNOB
–
This means “No Name on Back”. It refers to the lack of
a last name on the back of a jersey.
Sizing Scales – There are two basic “scales”
used in the sizing of Game Worn and Team Issue jerseys. First, is a numerical
scale which runs from 40 to 60. Second, there is the Alphabetical scale
which uses Small, Medium, Large, Xtra-Large, Xtra-Xtra Large, and so on.
These terms are abbreviated to S,M,L,XL,XXL,XXXL, and so on.
Sizing Scales are not exact and there is always some variation from
scale to scale. However, they are generally speaking matched as
follows:

Nameplate – This is a piece of fabric which
is placed on the back of the jersey for the purpose of attaching a
name. The fabric is usually the same color as the jersey itself and
is usually approximately 3 inches high X 10 inches in length. Typically,
the actual name is then either stenciled or sewn on to the jersey.
Stencil – A process by
which a plastic adhesive is attached to a jersey. This is usually
done via a heated machine that “presses” the item in place.
Line Cut Jersey –
Game Worn Jerseys and Team Issue jerseys typically come in two separate
“cuts”. First, is the Line Cut. This is a jersey which is tailored
in such a way that is very tight fitting around the shoulder area. It is
called, “Line Cut” because it is designed for Down Lineman.
Offensive or Defensive Lineman.
Skill Cut Jersey –
This is a jersey which is tailored in a more loose fitting manner.
This is suited for the “skill” position players such as
Quarterback, Running Back and Wide Receiver. Auto
or Signed - Jersey has been autographed by player.
Pr. or Prac. – Refers to a Practice jersey.
Simply, a jersey made or used during practice but not a game.
