The university of Georgia was founded in 1801 on 633 acres of land on the banks of the Oconee River in current day Athens georgia. The first class graduated four years later in 1804. The university is often referred to as uga which stands of course for University of Georgia, GA being the abbreviation for the state.

The athletic teams at the university of Georgia have a long and proud history. All the teams compete in the southeast conference or the SEC. Georgia athletics are overall very successful and since 1997 have been ranked in the top 10 of the NACDA – National Association of Collegiate Directors of athletics Directors Cup. Georgia baseball won the college world series in 1990. Overall the university Georgia has won 37 team national championships and 130 SEC championships. The Georgia bulldogs play their home football games at Sanford stadium. The Georgia football schedule includes the regular sec slate of games and adds two or three non-conference contest each year.

All of the georgia sports share the mascot uga the Georgia bulldog, . Because of this, the teams themselves are often referred to as the “dawgs”. All of the athletic teams share the colors and logo of the university Georgia. They are red, black and white. The logo features a large G in an oval shape.
